The New Year begins…

THE NEW YEAR begins where we are.
It doesn’t spin ahead to fair skies
or a warm remade do-over.
It’s still the same chill
the same worn-out cloud-masked sunshine
the same old things to work on.
It starts where we are
just like God, our Christ,
who takes us where we are
neither demanding a brand new sunny disposition
nor a perfect unsullied start
who is just here
as he was in the yester-year
to call us forward
and help us limp
onward
to sunny warm new days
still ahead.
Walk through.

Out of the Silence

Tortoise falling over

After a year of retirement

It’s been a long time since I posted anything here. Really a year and more since I said much of anything out loud. No preaching. No blogging. Not even any arguing. Just getting used to being retired. Retiring.

One of my goals for this new year, though, is more writing, more conversation. Not that what I write is worth the world paying attention. But I need the conversation. My grandson got a new tortoise a couple of months ago. He spent the first week holed up in his shell. That’s kind of what this last year has felt like. Time to come out of my shell.

So, thanks for reading and even more for commenting/replying.
